Classifications of Scissor Lifts & Aerial Lift Platforms
Scissor lifts are made of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, connected to create an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is raised vertically. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges to be able to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
The scissor lift has a low profile, best suited for smooth surfaces such as hard dirt surfaces, concrete and pavement. These equipment use either a combustion engine or electric motor to be able to power the lifting mechanism and move the lift. The operator will have to move the lift itself if she or he needs to travel horizontally, since the lift mechanism just operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts use the identical lifting technology as a regular scissor lift. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base which is specifically designed for uneven surfaces. These units also provide higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive so as to easily navigate through muddy and difficult terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are designed to be elevated both vertically and diagonally. This particular unit has a small work platform which houses controls to be able to operate the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics which power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift unit and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are attached with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting equipment has a small work platform or a bucket that is outfitted with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are made in order to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast so as to lift a work platform vertically into the air. Typically, these lifts are electrically powered or pneumatic powered and are self-propelled machines. These equipment provide a great solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is essential to remember that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road application.
