The forklift is a material handling device used to raise and move loads from one place to another. Each and every forklift component has a specific function. Various parts could be used to transport the load horizontally or vertically.

Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the parts that lower and lift the load. There are different types of masts for raising loads to different heights: duplex, triplex, quad and simplex.

Power Supply
There are four different ways you could power a forklift: gas, electric, propane and diesel. The battery is located within the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is situated on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is under the back of the truck.

Cab
Situated within the middle of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The steering wheel, gas pedal, brake, lifting controls and tilting controls are all located within the cab.

Frame
The frame of the truck carries all the biggest components of the forklift, including the counterweights, that are situated at the back in order to prevent the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the driveshaft, axles and wheels.
