There are two standard types of forklifts, models that run on gas and units that run on electricity:
Internal Combustion Forklifts: The Internal Combustion lift truck would run on fuels like gas, liquid propane, diesel or compressed natural gas or CNG. Gas powered models are great for outdoor use because they produce gases and pollutants which are harmful to workers and pedestrians. Gas units are also suitable for application in the rain and in bad weather. These units could carry weights approximately 15,000 to 35,000 pounds. Due to the maintenance and fuel costs, the gas powered models are much more expensive to use compared to the electric units, however, they cost much less up front than electric powered units. The liquid propane models are the best option for safe use in indoor applications.
Electric Lift Trucks: Electric forklifts take batteries which require frequent charging. As these units do not burn any fuel, there are no emissions polluting the air with these vehicles. They are the best option for indoor applications and warehouses. Additionally, forklifts which run on electricity do not require any fuel storage units and they are much quieter to run than other models. One of the disadvantages of the electric units is that they could not lift cargo over 15,000 pounds and therefore, have a slower acceleration compared to the models that utilize gasoline.
The lift truck is specially made to transport things and supplies quickly and easily. Accidents do happen often like is the case with nearly all types of machines. There are some safety regulations that should be followed to be able to keep everyone safe. The most important issue is recruiting a trained operator, who can show you a valid forklift license.
There are numerous different types of lift trucks available on the market. Choosing which one is best for your specific needs will be based on the type of environment your equipment will need to operate in, for example, indoors or outdoors or both and what kinds of loads which you need to transport. When you understand your specific needs, it will be easy to match up to the right type of forklift. When you understand your needs exactly you can make an accurate decision.
Leasing is one more good way to check out different models if you want to try out various features and see what type of choices are available. This is a less expensive way to know if the kind of equipment you have selected can keep up with you on the job site.
