Hyster Container Forklift

Hyster Container Forklift

At Hyster, your safety is one of our top concerns. This is the reason why we provide a range of optional safety devices that can be included to your machinery or work place. Following the standards of OSHA, Hyster makes work and head lamps as well as both visible and audible warning devices.

According to OSHA and ASME B56.1 regulations, the only warning device needed on a forklift is the steering wheel horn, which is a standard feature on all forklifts. Though lift trucks are not required to have audible or visible warning devices, there are some situations where optional warning devices could be appropriate. These factors are unique to each and every work place or work site and every situation has to be considered individually.

For audible safety devices, which are most frequently back-up alarms or motion alarms, the main point to take into consideration is the level of noise produced by the alarm. First of all, the audible device should be able to be distinguished from other noises in the work site and the sound has to be loud enough to be heard in the work site, even if other equipment may be operating. The ability for employees to hear alarms and know where the sound is coming from could be compromised if workers wear hearing protection devices. If the alarms are very offensive or disruptive to workers, nearby houses, or nearby businesses, alarms might have to be disabled. If noise must be disabled, this should be able to take place readily. Rules must also be followed so as to ensure that the levels of noise do not go beyond OSHA noise limits.

Visible safety devices might comprise the common flashing, strobe or rotating lights. Factors to think about with visible safety devices comprise whether or not these devices might be more suitable compared to audible devices. Driver distraction, workplace lighting and presence of reflective surfaces are all top priorities to consider to ensure that safety devices are effective and do not pose a danger to drivers or other employees. Safety light colours must be different from background surfaces and other lights that are within the work site. Position of safety devices are of utmost importance. Lights must be able to clear any overhead obstacles. Position of lights should not cause the lights to reflect or shine into the driver's eyes, but shielding of the lights should not overly obstruct the light's visibility to pedestrians.

To meet numerous application needs, Hyster has a variety of optional lights which comprise weather-resistant LED and halogen lights. These lights are able to hold up through vibration and shock as well. When it comes to head lamps and work lamps, OSHA has set standards to make working at night or in dark work spaces much safer. Directional lighting is required if the lighting on the forklift makes less than 2 lumens per square foot. Hyster has numerous choices which would really help increase visibility in low-light conditions.
