For the utilization of forklifts, there are a few safety and health rules governing their use. Lift trucks are large industrial machines that can be dangerous and have to be handled with safety in mind. The regulations and rules state that the operator must carry out daily inspections on the forklift and more thorough inspections every week and each and every month. The following inspections must be performed on the lift truck:
Lift Truck Brakes - brakes on forklifts are key features that must be double and triple checked. A brake check is done with various pressures and pedal heights to determine the sensitivity of the brakes. The brake lights should be inspected at the same time.
The Tires - the tires are also important to the safe performance of the truck and to the braking system. All the tires must be inspected properly to make sure they are inflated to the right pressure and that there are no punctures in the tires.
Controller - the forklift controller system is inspected by operating the forks and the release to determine that the system is in good working order. Any sign of issues should be reported and tended to immediately. The forklift must not be utilized until the controller system has been repaired.
Steering Wheel - the driver must check the lift truck steering wheel in order to make sure the turning of the wheel is right. Forklift safety depends upon the steering wheel working correctly and responding well. There are different types of checks that can be performed to determine the performance of the steering wheel.
Engine Oil - the Removing the oil dip stick from the engine with help determine if the engine needs oil. The dipstick will show both the oil color and the level of the oil. The oil should be refilled if the level is very low. If the colour is off, there might be contamination happening.
Fire Extinguisher - all lift trucks are required to be outfitted with a fire extinguisher. The extinguisher needs to be checked to ensure it would work properly in case of a fire. Various types of fire extinguisher must be checked in certain ways. Like for instance, a dry chemical extinguisher must be shaken.
